Who is PJ Myers?

“I’m a singer-songwriter-guitarist. I’ve come to it a little later in life than usual so I’m making the most of it while I’m still young! I pretty much only play music that I love, so when my clients book me I know we’re going to feel the same way about the music. I also write and record my own songs, both solo and in a band.”

“I’m based in Rutland, which is a lovely but rather quiet county tucked away almost in the dead centre of England. Fortunately I get out and about a lot as I get booked all over the place, as far as France and Italy.”

“I play a mixture of weddings, parties, corporate functions, folk clubs, pubs and festivals both solo and with my band, Cosmic Balloon.”

“I’m mostly into classic rock and roll, blues, folk, 50s/60s R&B, Motown and modern music inspired by those older artists. I’m a sucker for anything with good hooks and melodies.”

When did you start learning the guitar and what made you choose the guitar specifically?

“I picked up guitar when I was 17. I think the original inspiration was that I wanted to be Bob Dylan and Jimmy Page at the same time. I had always loved guitar music ever since I first heard the Beach Boys. I fell head over heels when I got into the Beatles. Chiming guitars and heavenly harmonies, that’s what gets me going.”

Who are your musical influences?

“I could talk about this for days. Let’s keep it short: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Led Zeppelin, Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac, Chuck Berry, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Carole King… I’m getting carried away already!”

“I like a lot of modern artists too, but because of my style of playing and singing, the oldies tend to describe my sound better.”

Which is your favourite song to perform?

“‘Jolene’ is evergreen and audiences love it. Tricky, though. Have you ever tried being Dolly Parton?”

What is your most requested song?

“Wonderwall. Or maybe ‘Sweet Caroline’? I should keep count.”

Have you ever been asked to learn a special request? If so what was it and what was the event?

“All the time. The most memorable was for a wake. The family held a beautiful service in a park and I sang some Pink Floyd that held special meaning. We all had a good cry and a hug at the end.”

Which song can you always rely on to fill the dance floor?

“I Believe In Miracles, You Sexy Thing! (pronounced ‘thang’, with a notable wink and self-effacing dance moves).”

What’s the best thing about being a professional musician?

“It’s not an easy job, but it’s rewarding in so many ways. The constant practice means I am always improving as a musician, learning incredible new material, and I get to geek out about my equipment, but the best thing is being in tune with an audience. When everyone is having a great time, and we’re all living in the music, time stops and the moment is all that matters. It feels as though we’re all connected, if that’s not too much new-age philosophy for you.”

And what’s the worst?

“Carrying things. No doubt about it. Heavy things. From the house to the car. From the car to the venue. And back again…”

What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you at an event?

“You meet a lot of interesting people playing music but nothing all that strange has ever happened to me.”

“One moment that stands out was playing a gig and seeing two people in the audience nudging each other and pointing at me with a funny look on their faces…took me a moment to realise but they were old schoolmates, 350 miles from where we grew up. They had no idea I had ever picked up a musical instrument, let alone become a gigging musician! Come to think of it, that was weirder for them than me.”

What would you do for a living if you weren’t a musician?

“I’d have to keep being a writer of some kind. I was a copywriter before I switched to music full time, but what I’d really like to do is screenwriting for film or television. I’ve met a lot of interesting people who would make great characters.”

Swing Time Trio were a triumph at Charlotte & James' wedding! There's nothing more suave than a jazz and swing trio... 🎶🎷"The Swing Time Trio did a fantastic performance at our wedding reception. Their music is fun, lighthearted and very enjoyable. We have had lots of great feedback from guests since the wedding who loved the music and said it was the perfect vibe for such a happy occasion. The Swing Time Trio were very organised in the lead up to the wedding and professional throughout. It was super easy to coordinate logistics, timings etc and they made the whole process very easy. They were dressed very smartly and fitted right in with all the wedding guests. We would highly recommend to anyone. We are looking forward to having another opportunity to hear them play again." ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ... See MoreSee Less
