The perfect Bristol-based wedding band, The Primes will bring something extra special to your event.

So let’s meet them! We spoke to lead singer Molly as The Primes took their turn In The Spotlight:

Who are The Primes?

The Primes are a superb, Funk, Soul, Pop and Motown band, who cover hit classics and bootleg medleys with a twist, and to an exceptionally high standard! With an ever growing repertoire, including modern pop and dance tracks, niche covers such as the Ghostbusters theme, and Cat Empire faves, along with all the classics, like Aretha Franklin, Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder numbers, they tick all the boxes! Whatever music style you’re into, The Primes pride themselves on the quality of the musicianship, performance, and service being impeccable. With glowing reviews every time, the proof is in the pudding!

Which song is your favourite to perform?

It changes every week as our repertoire grows, but to name a few, Waiting All Night – Rudimental / Do Your Thing medley – Basement Jaxx / I Wanna Dance With Somebody – Whitney Houston are definitely up there every time.

Out of the songs you’ve been asked to learn for a first dance, which is your favourite?

Can’t choose between ‘Hooked On A Feeling’ – Blue Suede and ‘Accentuate The Positive’ – Ella Fitzgerald Live at The Crescendo. Both fantastic to play live with the full band.

Here’s a really popular first dance song: All Of Me by John Legend – Performed by The Primes:

One final song question, which is the song you can always rely on to fill the dance floor?

Totally depends on the crowd, as we play to people with such different music tastes, but Valerie is a good one, also Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, or No Diggity is a crowd pleaser too.

Do you get on with each other all of the time?

Ha! I think we do yeah. We have all worked together for a long time and so we’re definitely good friends as well as colleagues. We have long journeys all together in the van where everything comes out, so we have been there for each other through all sorts. We have some very funny characters in the group too, so we do a lot of laughing when we’re not having to be professional.

Who has the most annoying habit (and what is it)?

Sean, our guitarist is a bit OCD, so Dave, the bass player takes great pleasure in moving his pedal board so it’s not straight to wind him up. Sean thinks it’s very annoying!

The Primes Band

What’s the best thing about being in a band?

The music! All the musicians in the band love music and love their instrument, and every one of us is a musician or artist in our own right, so we have various projects we’re all working on at any one time. Being in a band means we all get to play and practice what we love regularly. The group of players in the band, are such a great bunch of people too, so ‘The Hang’ is also top!

… and what’s the worst?

Packing down at the end of a very long day and driving for hours to get home again. There are definitely worse things in life though!

What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you on a gig?

Hmmmm weird? Not sure about weird really, as nothing seems weird in the end as anything goes, but the best gigs, are when the crowd is just as entertaining as the band to watch. This could be anything from choreographed dances to that uncle who had one too many and is just loving life! One of the best moments of last summer was when a man in his 90s who had been on the dance floor all night busting shapes, came up to us when we’d finished the set with a necktie around his head and said, “That was the best night I’ve had in years. I’m going to hurt in the morning, but it’s been so worth it” I thought, that was a pretty good compliment.

The most important question: buffet or hog roast?

Ooh depends on the buffet. Some are amazing! Fricken love crackling though!
