It’s been a while, but we’re back with another installment of In The Spotlight – your chance to peek behind the scenes at our bands and find out what it’s really like to spend your life on the road in the most exciting profession on the planet! Today’s In The Spotlight victims volunteers are the sensational Get Lucky!

Who are Get Lucky?

Get Lucky are an exhilarating female-fronted 3-piece party band who combine sumptuous vocals and exceptional live guitar and sax with professionally recorded backing tracks to produce a stunning full band sound at a fraction of the cost of hiring a band with more members. Get Lucky perform a varied repertoire consisting of all the latest modern hits along with classic favourites from the 60s, 70s and 80s – in other words, everything you could wish for in a party band!

We had a chat with Get Lucky’s guitarist Mark to find out about being in the band:

Which song is your favourite to perform?

It has to be Fleur East – “Sax”! It’s such a high energy number and always gets guests dancing. Plus it gives our sax player, Piers, a chance to really show off his skills!

Nice choice! As soon as we heard “Sax”, we knew it was an instant classic that would be in high demand from our bands. We can see this one being part of our band’s repertoires for many years to come.

Out of the songs you’ve been asked to learn for a first dance, which is your favourite?

We’ve performed so many beautiful first dances, but a real stand out for us, and something quite different, was when a couple requested we play “Africa” by Toto.

What a great song! That first dance must have been a very special moment!

One final song question, which is the song you can always rely on to fill the dance floor?

This is a hard choice between “Uptown Funk” and “Mr Brightside” – both work brilliantly! Guests definitely pull out their best moves when we play “Uptown Funk”!

Another vote for “Mr Brightside”! When Wildcard were In The Spotlight, they also chose the classic Killers track.

Right, on to the gossip! Do you get on with each other all of the time?

Of Course!!!! When you spend so much time together, rehearsing, travelling to shows, waiting for sets to start and, of course, performing, it makes everything so much better when you’re good friends.

Who has the most annoying habit (and what is it)?

Piers, the Sax player, as he insists on putting his Saxophone through a guitar FX pedal to get crazy sounds, that’s the guitarists job!!

What’s the best thing about being in a band?

Getting to travel around the country and playing at some amazing venues whilst seeing couples and friends enjoying one of the best days of their lives.

…and what’s the worst?

Getting home at 6am ‘zzzzzzzzzzzzzz’

What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you?

Playing at a gig whilst Rick Astley played drums for the support act, wearing an orange jump suit. It was really bizarre and he didn’t even sing ’Never Going To Give You Up’.

And finally, the most important question: Buffet or Hog Roast?

Definitely Hog Roast.

Well that wraps up another edition of In The Spotlight. Thanks to Mark for taking the time to answer our questions – and for searing the image of a Rick Astley clad in an orange jumpsuit, drumming manically, into our minds! Get Lucky are a superb band whose show is guaranteed to get you party, wedding reception or corporate event jumping!
