Crush In The Spotlight

Last updated on July 22nd, 2019

Welcome to another exciting edition of In The Spotlight, where we go behind the scenes with the bands on the Entertainment Nation books. This time we’ve had a chat with super-talented pop and rock band Crush to find out the songs they love to perform, the best thing about being in a band and which member has the most annoying habit!

Who are Crush?

Crush are a versatile 4 piece pop/rock party and wedding band East Sussex and have been rocking audiences across the UK for several years. They play the biggest hits through the decades from Blues Bros right up to Bruno Mars in a contemporary energetic style. Individually they have worked with some of the world’s biggest acts, from Ozzy Osborne to Paolo Nutini to Girls Aloud. As a band, they have played at the UK’s most prestigious venues including Hampton Court Palace, London Eye, NEC, RAF, The Royal Horseguards Hotel, Natural History Museum and many more.

We spoke to Mike from Crush to get to know the band a little better:

Which song is your favourite to perform?

Everyone in the band has their favourite, but the stand out songs at the moment are Uptown Funk and the classic Fleetwood Mac song Go Your Own Way which has something for everyone in the band to get their teeth into with its soaring vocals, epic guitar solos and cool drum grooves. That’s why we chose it for our music video! We are looking forward to adding more new chart songs though!

Nice choices! We love a bit of Fleetwood Mac at Entertainment Nation HQ – Rumours is on permanent rotation on the playlist! We chose another Fleetwood Mac song, Songbird, as one of our 20 First Dance Songs You’ve Never Thought Of

Out of the songs you’ve been asked to learn for a first dance, which is your favourite?

We were once asked to play a medley of Can’t Take My Eyes Off You by Frankie Valli going into Happy by Pharrell Williams. That was an interesting mix!

One final song question, which is the song you can always rely on to fill the dance floor?

Thriller. Guests will crack out their scariest moves on that one! Suddenly everyone is Michael Jackson.

Been there, done that, got embarrassed by the videos the next day!

Let’s move on to finding out about the people behind the music. Do you always get along with each other?

Of course! We aren’t just colleagues, we are also the best of friends! Except when Tom gets told off by Josh for eating noodles in his car on the way home!

Who has the most annoying habit (and what is it)?

Josh keeps coming over to Mike’s house and eats all his shredded wheat. Mike needs his shredded wheat so he can shred on the guitar.

What’s the best thing about being in a band?

Playing music for a living and seeing the faces of happy couples light up when we play their first dance is a real buzz.

…and what’s the worst?

Definitely the driving home at 3am, it never gets any easier, even with Magic blasting through the speakers!

What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened to you at a wedding?

We once played in an iconic grade 1 listed building where the guests were given very strict instructions not to dance with the lower half of their body and not move their feet while dancing. It was very comical to see so many people dancing but completely stuck to the floor, almost always losing their balance!

And finally, the most important question: Buffet or Hog Roast?

Hog Roast, and we have become quite the connoisseurs over the years. We don’t even have to taste anymore, we can judge the quality by the smell from 100 yards.

That makes it 2-1 to Hog Roast in the complimentary food league, along with an errant vote for cake (thanks Wildcard)!

Thank you to Crush for taking the time to answer our questions and for giving such entertaining answers – the upper-body dancing reminds us of those novelty dancing flowers that were so hilarious in the 90s.

Make sure to check out Crush’s full profile and if you’re after a band that’ll get the dance floor rocking all night long, look no further!
